Q: Does every room have an ocean view?
A: Yes, all 15 rooms have a view of Scarborough State Beach! The motel room with the BEST ocean view is ROOM #14, which costs 30% more than our standard rooms.
Q: When will the room be charged to the credit card I provided when I reserved?
A: Your card is not charged until your check-in date. If you prefer to pay with cash upon arrival, simply let us know in advance and provide us with your estimated time of arrival. If you will be paying with a credit or debit card, please complete our self check-in agreement (Link will be sent via email a 7 days before your stay). The card included there will be charged in full the morning you are due to check in. We do not accept personal checks as payment.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: All cancellations must be received at least one-week in advance of the reservation. The cancellation fee is $25 per night cancelled with less than a week’s notice.
For example, if your reservation was for July 20 – 24 (5 nights) and you call to cancel your entire reservation on July 15th, your cancellation fee will be $50 (July 20 & 21 were cancelled with less than a week’s notice). July 22, 23 & 24 were cancelled free of charge because we were given a one-week’s notice for those
three days.
Please note that cancellations must be made at least one day in advance of the expected day of arrival, as same-day cancellations and no shows are charged a full one-night’s stay. Cancellation charges remain the same in the case of hurricanes or any other unforeseen circumstances, so please invest in travel insurance if this is a major concern for you. Please also be sure to get a cancellation number upon cancelling your reservation as reservations are not considered cancelled until you have received one either over the phone or via email.
No refunds for early departures.
Q: What’s the deal with the Bed & Breakfast rooms?
A: The bed & breakfast rooms are two large rooms located in the house directly behind the motel. They are on the first floor with a common room in the middle. The top two floors of the house are where the owners of The Anchor Motel live so you will not be disturbed by people above you. Both B&B rooms are set up just like our standard rooms but have two QUEEN beds and a bathroom in each. These rooms are priced at $30 higher than our standard rooms because they are larger and more spacious. They still have ocean view but the view is cut off a little by the motel in front. Homemade muffins and coffee are provided in the common room daily around 7am. These two rooms are the only rooms open year round.
Q: Do the rooms have coffee makers?
A: No, but free coffee is provided in the main office every morning around 7:30am. Complimentary coffee and homemade muffins are provided for those staying in one of our two Bed & Breakfast rooms.
Q: Are hair dryers and ironing boards provided?
A: Yes, hair dryers are now provided in every room! As for an iron and ironing board, we have them available in the office. Simply ask someone in the office to borrow them and they will be happy to get it for you.
Q: How much does it cost to get on the beach across the street?
A: Nothing! Scarborough State Beach has no access fee, therefore you can enter the beach by walking directly across the street free of charge. Parking, on the other hand, is not free for beach comers but if you are staying at The Anchor Motel, a parking space is provided in our lot at no additional charge!
Q: Which rooms have one king bed?
A: The rooms directly to the right and left of the main office (Room #s 5 & 6). The rest of the standard rooms (Room #s 1-4 and 7-12) have two double beds in each. Room #14 and the Bed & Breakfast rooms (#101 & 102) each have two queen beds.
Q: Do you provide a cot?
A: Yes, we have two single bed cots on hand which may be borrowed on a first come, first serve basis. We will provide a cot at a fee of $15 per night but keep in mind that the cot does not fit very well in our standard motel rooms that already have two double beds. It is best used in either a motel room with a king bed or one of the Bed & Breakfast rooms (which both have two queen beds but are slightly larger than the standard motel rooms).
Q: How many people can fit in one room?
A: I would recommend no more than four people in one room but I have seen people squish six in a room before. Our largest rooms (the B&B rooms) only have two queen beds. Also keep in mind that additional people (more than two) cost $10 extra per person per night, unless they are ages 10 and under.
Q: Are pets allowed?
A: Not during our busy season May through September. We do, however, accept quiet low-shedding dogs October through April (our off-season) for an additional $15/pet/night. Please keep in mind that costs for any damages or excessive cleaning necessary upon your departure will be charged to the credit card on file. Dogs are not allowed on the beds and must not be left unattended at anytime. Kingston Kennel is a great place a few miles away to keep your dog or cat if you are traveling with one.
Q: May we check-in prior to 3:00pm?
A: Yes, if your room happens to be ready early. If your room has not been cleaned yet, you may let someone know you’ve arrived and then park for the beach in the meantime. You may also remain parked at the motel upon check-out on your day of departure, so long as everything is out of the room and the key has been turned in by 11:00am.
Q: Will our room be cleaned during our stay?
A: We will only enter your room if you put your “Service Please” sign out on your door knob. You are also welcome to place tied up trash bags and dirty towels out in front of your room for us to take away. A new bag and clean towels will be left outside your room in return.
Q: Is the office staffed 24hrs?
A: No, we are a small family run motel and we like to enjoy the local restaurants, festivals and beaches like you do! We are usually in the office between the hours of 7am and 3pm. After that, we are in and out and will put a note at the front desk letting you know our return time. **If you are checking in after 3pm, please let us know your estimated time of arrival.** Common supplies that you may require during your stay will be left out in the lobby under the microwave station. Bags of ice are available at Cumberland Farms 1 mile down the street. Please feel free to call or text 401-473-9032 at anytime if you require immediate attention though!
