Q: Does every room have an ocean view?
A: Yes, all 15 rooms have a view of Scarborough State Beach! The motel room with the BEST ocean view is ROOM #14, which costs 30% more than our standard rooms. The room with the 2nd best ocean view is ROOM #1, which costs 15% more than our standard rooms and can also be made handicapped accessible if necessary.
Q: When will the room be charged to the credit card I provided when I reserved?
A: If your reservation is for the 2023 season, your card is not charged until your check-in date. If you prefer to pay with cash upon arrival, simply let us know in advance and provide us with your estimated time of arrival. If you will be paying with a credit or debit card, please complete our guest agreement (Link will be sent via email 7 days before your stay). The card provided will be charged in full the morning you are due to check in and an email will go out with your room number and door lock key code. Please be sure you have access to your emails. To enter your room when you arrive, simply punch in the 4-digit code, wait a few seconds for the bolt to unlock and then turn the handle. To lock the door when you go out, just press the lock button on the keypad. (Please note that we do not accept personal checks as payment.)
If your reservation is for the 2024 season, your card will be charged in full 2 weeks before your arrival date. The payment is non-refundable. Please use the guest agreement (emailed to you 3 weeks before your check-in date) to update or change the credit card that will be used for payment. Reservations made within two weeks of arrival will be charged immediately upon booking and refunds are not available. NOTE: If you prefer to pay cash, please email us with your estimated time of arrival so that we only authorize your credit card instead of charging it.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: For all 2023 reservations:
All cancellations must be received at least ONE week in advance of the reservation. The cancellation fee is $25 per night cancelled with less than a week’s notice.[For example, if your reservation was for July 20 – 24 (5 nights) and you call to cancel your entire reservation on at 2pm on July 15th, your cancellation fee will be $50 (July 20 & 21 were cancelled with less than a week’s notice). July 22, 23 & 24 were cancelled free of charge because we were given a one-week’s notice for those three days.]
Please note that cancellations made after 3pm the day before your check-in date and will be charged in full for the first night, plus $25 per each additional night cancelled. Cancellation charges remain the same in the case of hurricanes or any other unforeseen circumstances, so please invest in travel insurance if this is a major concern for you. Reservations are not considered cancelled until you have received your cancellation number over the phone or via email.
No refunds for early departures.
A: For all 2024 reservations:
For all reservations arriving after January 1, 2024 you will have until TWO weeks before your stay to cancel. Non-refundable payment in FULL is required 2 weeks before your check-in date and will be charged to the credit card provided in the guest agreement that you will receive via email 3 weeks before your check in date. If you are unable to complete the guest agreement, payment in full will be charged to the credit card used when making the reservation.
If you want to split the payment on more than one card or pay cash, please call or email us at least two weeks before your stay. No need to complete the guest agreement if other arrangements have been made.
Reservations made less than two weeks in advance of your chosen check-in date have no free cancellation period and will be charged immediately upon booking.
Payment is still not refundable even in the case of inclement weather (including hurricanes) or any other unforeseen circumstances, so please invest in travel insurance if this is a major concern for you. Reservations are not considered cancelled until you have received your cancellation number over the phone or via email. No refunds for early departures.
Q: What’s the deal with the Bed & Breakfast rooms?
A: The bed & breakfast rooms are two large rooms located in the house directly behind the motel. They are on the first floor with a common room in the middle. The top two floors of the house are where the owner of The Anchor Motel lives so you will not be disturbed by people above you. Both B&B rooms are set up just like our standard motel rooms but have two QUEEN beds and a bathroom in each. These rooms are priced at $30 higher than our standard rooms because they are larger and more spacious. They still have ocean view but the view is cut off a little by the motel in front. Homemade muffins and coffee (Keurig) are provided in the common room near the microwave daily. These two rooms are the only rooms open year round.
Q: Do the rooms have coffee makers?
A: No, but free coffee is provided in the main office every morning. If you are the first guest in there, simply press the button to begin the brewing process! Complimentary coffee (Keurig) and homemade muffins are provided for those staying in one of our two Bed & Breakfast rooms.
Q: Are hair dryers and ironing boards provided?
A: Yes, hair dryers are now provided in every room! As for an iron and ironing board, we have them available in the office. Simply ask someone in the office to borrow them and they will be happy to get it for you.
Q: How much does it cost to get on the beach across the street?
A: Nothing! Scarborough State Beach has no access fee, therefore you can enter the beach by walking directly across the street free of charge. Parking, on the other hand, is not free for beach comers but if you are staying at The Anchor Motel, a parking space is provided in our lot at no additional charge!
Q: Which rooms have one king bed?
A: The rooms directly to the right and left of the main office (Room #s 5 & 6). The rest of the standard rooms (Room #s 1-4 and 7-12) have two double beds in each. Room #14 and the Bed & Breakfast rooms (#101 & 102) each have two queen beds.
Q: Do you provide a cot?
A: Yes, we have two single bed cots on hand which may be borrowed on a first come, first serve basis. We will provide a cot at a fee of $15 per night but keep in mind that the cot does not fit very well in our standard motel rooms that already have two double beds. It is best used in either a motel room with a king bed or one of the Bed & Breakfast rooms (which both have two queen beds but are slightly larger than the standard motel rooms).
Q: How many people can fit in one room?
A: I would recommend no more than four people in one room but I have seen people squish six in a room before. Our largest rooms (the B&B rooms) only have two queen beds. Also keep in mind that additional people (more than two) cost $10 extra per person per night.
Q: Are pets allowed?
A: Not during our busy season May through September. We do, however, accept quiet low-shedding dogs October through April (our off-season) for an additional $25/pet/night. Please keep in mind that costs for any damages or excessive cleaning necessary upon your departure will be charged to the credit card on file. Dogs are not allowed on the beds and must not be left unattended at anytime. Kingston Kennel is a great place a few miles away to keep your dog or cat if you are traveling with one.
Q: May we check-in prior to 3:00pm?
A: Yes, if your room happens to be ready early. If your room has not been cleaned yet, you may let someone know you’ve arrived and then park for the beach in the meantime. You may also remain parked at the motel upon check-out on your day of departure, so long as everything is out of the room by 11:00am. If your room is ready prior to 3pm, you will receive an email notification!
Q: Will our room be cleaned during our stay?
A: We will only enter your room if you put your “Service Please” sign out on your door knob prior to 3pm. You are also welcome to place trash bags, recycle bins and dirty towels out in front of your room for us to take away. A new bag, clean bins and fresh towels will be left outside your room in return.
Q: Is the office staffed 24hrs?
A: No, we are a small family run motel and we like to enjoy the local restaurants, festivals and beaches like you do! We are usually in the office between the hours of 9am and 4pm. After that, we are in and out and will put a note at the front desk letting you know our return time.
Common supplies that you may require during your stay will be left out in the lobby under the microwave station. A small ice machine for water bottles & cocktails is available in the office and large bags of ice for coolers are available at Cumberland Farms 1 mile down the street. Please feel free to call or text Christine @ 401-473-9032 anytime if you require immediate attention at anytime though!
Q: How far in advance do you book out?
A: You can reserve rooms up to 12 months in advance. For example, in June 2023 you will be able to book anytime through June 2024. Summers book up very quickly so tap the Menu above and hit “Availability” to see what’s left!
